The Greater Bilby lives in arid areas of central Australia. It makes its home in a burrow that spirals down, making it hard for its predators to get in. The female bilby's pouch faces backwards, which prevents her pouch from getting filled with dirt while she is digging. Once widespread in Australia, the Greater Bilby is now a threatened species.
De bilby of grote langoorbuideldas (Macrotis lagotis) is een nachtdier en verblijft overdag in grote, diepe, zelfgegraven holensystemen. 's Nachts graaft hij in de bodem naar voedsel, o.a. wortels, schimmels maar hij hij eet ook insecten, vogels of hagedissen. Bilbies krijgen 1 tot 3 jongen.
